#innovativeschools project
WINNER PROJECT OF THE SECOND PRIZE #INNOVATIVE SCHOOLS COMPETITION 2016. http://WWW.SCUOLEINNOVATIVE.IT/ IL-LIBRO-DI-SCUOLEINNOVATIVE/
The project involved the design of a middle school and a nursery school to be grafted onto two separate but not far from each other plots of land, in the Municipality of Albano Laziale, in the Castelli Romani area. With the team of I | E | L architects we worked on the visual communication between the two spaces and on the maintenance of the olive trees present on one of the plots. The greenery penetrates the interior of the buildings with the same naturalness and strength of the light which, filtered by brise soleil, is invited to a continuous insertion into the closed space, to avoid the excessive use of artificial light; the wind enters from the ventilation chimneys inspired by children's pinwheels - rose-shaped paper windmills colored - and cools the rooms naturally just as the small greenhouses leaning against the classrooms allow the spaces to be heated in winter, reducing the energy consumption dedicated to heating the classrooms.
This project also stands out for its inclusive approach: despite the differences in level and the two floors of the building, there are no stairs or architectural barriers as in traditional school buildings, but only flooring and ramps with slopes never exceeding 8%.
Drawings and tables have been published in the volume edited by the Ministry of Education and INAIL.

The exploded axonometric view shows a module of the school, divided into several classrooms, each thermally self-sufficient with a roof garden, solar screens, a teaching garden and a greenhouse responsible for maintaining heat in winter. The entire structure is made of painted wood and exposed bricks. A screening decoration in the shape of a tree protects the students from direct sunlight. The colors of nature are predominant throughout the school complex starting from green and continuing with all the colors of autumn.
The pinwheels are painted in different colors depending on each module. The fireplace is made of exposed brick and the systems connect it to both classrooms of its competence through pipes integrated into the project design. Each classroom on the ground floor belongs to the Primary School and has a direct exit to the garden. The classrooms on the upper floor belong to the Middle School and have a portion of the roof garden assigned to them that must be maintained and preserved.

Each classroom boasts a small greenhouse that helps maintain heat in winter, which can be opened in summer and allows for a vegetable garden cultivated by each student in all classes of the Primary and Secondary School.
