The two exhibition halls at the Cisterna Maggiore, an archaeological structure managed by the Riviera d'Ulisse Regional Natural Park, are located in Via del Porticciolo Romano along the Mamurra path near the town of Gianola, in the municipality of Formia.

The museum route at the Cisterna Maggiore can already be reached from the Sentiero di Mamurra both on foot and by motor vehicle.

Giànola and Monte di Scàuri (120 m above sea level) constitute a circumscribed orographic complex all indicated as the promontory of Giànola, specific to the area affected by the extensive Roman ruins in which tradition identifies a Temple of Janus, elongated between the sea and the plain behind, limited to the west towards Formia by the mouth of the Rio Santa Croce which separates it from the beach of Santo Janni and to the east by the deep inlet of the port of Giànola, with the relevant remains of a swimming pool incorporated into a modern landing place; the promontory ends with the appendix of Monte D'Oro on the beach of the ancient village of Scàuri, where another Roman villa built on more ancient megalithic walls is attributed to the censor Marco Emilio Scauro (Ciccone).
