#History without barriers

In the context of the recovery of historic centers and places of worship of great architectural interest, the project “History without barriers” was placed where, together with the conscious restoration of the FEC heritage, the initiative supports design proposals for new accessibility to monuments and surrounding areas: public spaces, accesses, paving, paths, signs, street furniture, greenery. The projects of the historic centers in the Province of Rieti, united by a similar historical/social humus, aim to describe in detail a larger design that embraces the different realities according to a model accessible to all users, which can support and assist the usual planning. The revitalization of the historic fabric must occur according to socially sustainable models, both for the involvement of all users and for the creation of new social spaces such as meeting points. The rendering of the “accessible” areas contemplates an all-round usability, which includes multisensory paths for blind users, with hearing or cognitive difficulties, visually impaired, elderly, children, spreading the concept of accessibility of the historical cultural heritage with paths designed according to multisensory concepts, information extended to a wide range of users, using the languages Braille, WLS and for cognitive problems, the PCS, applied to all sites of interest. The project wants to contribute to giving a new growth of conventional tourism, but also to respond to an ever-increasing need dictated by the so-called “accessible tourism”, currently in great demand.
